Ghosts: Season 5 Episode 6 Review

Published on 2 December 2025 at 15:44

Planes, Shanes and Automobiles

Sam goes on a trip for a book signing and Pete goes along for the ride. Jay is supposed to be handling Sam’s ghostly duties, but he’s ignoring them, so they call the only other living person who can see ghosts they know, Kyle, to come help them.

Warning: Spoilers below

Book Signing

Sam is getting ready to leave for her first book signing since her vampire novel about Isaac’s backstory was published. Jay wants her to do well but wants her back to celebrate Thanksgiving since he won’t be seeing the rest of his family this year. Sam is excited but worried about her travel buddy, Pete. He’s still stuck in his 1980s travel agent mindset. Pete has a lot of travel energy that can easily be too much for the average person whether they be living or ghost.

While Sam’s away, she left a list of chores she does for the ghosts for Jay to do. However, since Jay can’t see or hear them, he decides to ignore them. They try to threaten him until Thor says they should bring in “Man Sam.” This doesn’t make sense at first until Sass points out Thor means Kyle, the other living person they know who can see ghosts. Of course, he made a pass at Sam which means his relationship with Jay is frazzled at best. Still, the ghosts make their move.

Jay and Kyle

Kyle arrives seemingly excited about the possibility of mending fences with Jay, but Jay is not thrilled to see him. The ghosts tell Kyle what happened and Jay is frustrated while Kyle is disappointed. The ghosts use Kyle to relay to Jay a threat about what they will expose to Sam if he doesn’t let Kyle stay. It’s about eating Sonic in the bathroom which leads to Jay letting Kyle stay to serve as the ghosts’ butler.

While Kyle is serving the ghosts, he looks for ways to bond with Jay. Kyle is lonely and looking for human companionship. Trevor tries to help Kyle and Jay bond with some football trivia about Jay’s favorite team, the New York Giants. Unfortunately, things go awry when Jay starts asking about teams from the 2000s since Trevor’s sports knowledge ends where he died in the 1990s. Jay is upset, at first, until he realizes Kyle’s ability to see ghosts is causing him loneliness with other living people and the two share a nice moment.

Sam and Pete

At the book signing, things are going rough for Sam. No one showed up to get a copy of her book signed, so she’s feeling downtrodden. Plus, Pete’s travel energy is too much for her. She wants to get back home, enjoy Jay’s Thanksgiving feast, and have someone else pick up the Pete conversation. However, an airline strike takes effect the exact moment she’s supposed to board her flight, so now she and Pete have to drive back to Woodstone.

Pete tries to give her travel advice, but it’s been 40 years since he knew the area and things have changed. His directions get them stranded on a dirt road with no cell service. Sam finally loses her temper and yells at him to leave her alone. He tells her she may get her wish since he’s started disappearing. Sam switches from angry to scared as she doesn’t want to lose Pete this way and she tries to find a way to save him. He mentions a man he once knew who lived in the area, but that man died 10 years prior.

his son lives in the home, and when Sam mentions Pete, the man is willing to do anything for a friend of the man who his father always spoke highly of. Sam arrives at the house in a helicopter in time for dinner.

Thanksgiving Feast

Sam is shocked to see Kyle there, but as Kyle gets ready to leave, Jay invites him to stay for the feast. At the beginning of the episode, Sam and Jay discussed the idea of a Thanksgiving feast at the mansion with Sass, because he is a Native American. He said he was fine with it as long as Jay made yams with mushrooms. Jay agreed, but also made other traditional Native American dishes to honor Sass and his heritage.

All the ghosts celebrate along with Sam, Jay and Kyle. However, Trevor is upset about being at the kids’ table. Pete points out that he and Trevor are the newest ghosts, so they are the kids in this scenario and suggests they come up with something to show everyone else like an excited kid wanting to impress the adults.

What’s Next?

After what I found to be a disappointing Halloween episode, Ghosts found a way to deliver for Thanksgiving. The interactions with Sass, Sam and Pete on the road, plus Jay and Kyle bonding despite their issues from their previous interactions all managed to deliver. Five seasons in, and Ghosts gives us a very enjoyable episode that blends holiday special with overarching narrative. Well Done!
