Raiders of the Lost Scar

Simon keeps getting visions of the past from the tall, white-eyed ghost trapped in the church. Meanwhile, Maddie, Claire, Nicole and Xavier go to the festival at the school to learn more about the town’s history and time may be running out for the ghosts at the school.

Warning: Spoilers Below

Recounting Visions

The ghosts are trying to figure out what all happened in the scar. Simon tells them all about the visions he saw from “white eyes.” Simon saw the kids in the church, rosary beads and drawings on the wall. The ghosts now have questions and decide to go down and check it out. Simon doesn’t want to go back yet, and the ghosts agree he shouldn’t. They head down to Mr. Martin’s scar to see what they can find.

Meanwhile, Charlie is put on Simon watch. Simon continues to struggle with everything he’s seen so far. Simon reveals to Charlie that he hasn’t been entirely truthful. He hasn’t responded to messages from his sister, Sabrina. Simon thinks she has every reason to hate him since their mother died during childbirth with him. Charlie explains that she can’t hate him if she reached out and not to let fear cost him his family.

Town History

In the world of the living, Xavier finally gets in touch with Tracy, the woman Kyle had a crush on when they were both high school students. Tracy does not respond well to Xavier’s call. Meanwhile, Xavier talks to Kyle and Maddie’s dad where they learn that if the home where ghosts live is destroyed, they can no longer crossover and are stranded in the world they are in now. This is devastating to Maddie who doesn’t want her friends stranded as ghosts.

Xavier and Maddie head to the festival at the school to meet up with Claire and Nicole. Claire is pretending like she’s ready to come home to her family since her stepfather’s company is mentioned in the plans Nicole found at the Superintendent’s house during Livia’s party. Dr. Hunter-Price hosts a puppet show about the town’s first statesman, Alfred Van Heidt. However, the woman working as a fortune teller gets up and says something in Finnish, letting Claire know she’s the one to follow.

Fortune Telling

The Finnish word the fortune teller used was the word for “devil.” Claire, Maddie and Nicole go to ask her about Alfred Van Heidt. She explains he was an evil man who treated the townspeople as less than human. He locked the kids in the church on the day they drowned. He thought it would break the spirit of the townspeople and force them to sell. Instead, it strengthened their resolve. Meanwhile, he was caught in the same flood that killed the kids.

While this is going on, Xavier heads to the area where Tracy is performing. Once she’s done, he has questions for her. She reveals that Kyle survived the bus crash and they went to prom together, but this version of Kyle acted a lot differently than the one she knew before the crash. This raises questions. Kyle’s ghost is in the hospital, so who is in Kyle’s body? We’ve got another body snatching situation like Maddie and Mr. Anderson.

Dreary Futures

Maddie is struggling with how to tell her ghost friends they may be stuck on the school grounds forever. She explains this to Nicole and Claire, completely unaware that Wally, Rhonda and Charlie can hear her because they are in an area of the school where no one died. The three ghosts go find Yuri and Quinn and tell them everything they heard from Maddie. The five realize that Simon isn’t in the library with them and the watch is also missing. They figure out he’s gone back down in the scar.

Simon found Mr. Martin, and the pair went to the scar together. Both want to know more about the man stuck down there. Simon confronts the white-eyed man and the man starts giving him more visions from the past. The rest of the ghosts get down there and think he’s hurting Simon. Quinn tries to hit the ghost with a board but ends up hitting Simon instead, knocking him out to end the episode.

What’s Next?

This episode did a lot to push questions forward about everything going on. Who is White Eyes? The episode hints it’s Alfred Van Height, but he seems to be telling Simon something more than just an evil man who killed kids. Either the school needs to be saved or the ghosts may be stranded. Wally received his door, so he can leave, but the others will be stuck. What will happen to Simon if this happens as well since he’s not dead and no one is in his body? And who jumped into Kyle’s body in 2004? This episode delivered better than I expected. It’s probably the best episode of the season.
