The episode opens with a voiceover from Spider-Man describing the Wakanda Event. Shown in What If…? season one, Black Panther, Spider-Man and Ant-Man’s head along with Dr. Strange’s cloak arrived in Wakanda to look for a cure when Thanos arrives just like during the events in Avengers: Infinity War. Unfortunately, Thanos is a zombie and they reveal that Black Panther sacrificed himself to end Thanos and save Spider-Man and Ant-Man. But it had the cost of preventing them from being able to stop the zombie apocalypse from spreading. The pair were rescued by wizards and taken to Kamar Taj.

This is a nice way for the series to pay tribute to Chadwick Boseman. He voiced Black Panther in two episodes of What If…? season one but died before Zombies was greenlit. Black Panther doesn’t speak in the episode but they give him a heroic sacrifice for the good of humanity and to say thank you to his MCU contributions.

Present Day

The series shifts to the present where Spider-Man is telling the story to children at Kamar Taj. Sorcerers come over and explain to Spider-Man and Scott Lang’s head that the Queen of the Dead, Wanda Maximoff, is ready to march on Paris and they need to be ready to fight. While Spider-Man and Scott Lang worry about their chances, the sorcerers tell them they have help.

Elsewhere, the escape pod from the City on the Sea washes ashore near New Asgard. The survivors make their way to the gates seeking an audience with leaders. Valkyrie demands to see an invitation as it is a home for the gods. When she’s about to attack, Khonshu comes out of BladeKnight to reveal himself as an Egyptian god who is welcome along with his friends.

New Asgard

The Asgardians are feasting inside and Red Guardian joins a group to eat with them. Kamala finds Thor sitting on a throne but he looks broken, much like he did during Avengers: Endgame after Thanos won. This is slightly different as it’s not played for laughs like that version was. Valkyrie explains the feast was provided by the Queen of Sokovia. Zemo says Sokovia has no queen, but an unzombified Wanda Maximoff shows up claiming there’s a great power that she needs an army to fight and is asking the survivors for help. She says she was once a zombie but the Wakanda Event helped her regain her powers and fight off the virus.

At this time, one of the Asgardians starts coughing and Valkyrie accuses Wanda of sabotage. She reveals that she’s still a zombie and the feast has been the body parts of zombies. This will turn every Agardian who feasted on them into zombies, as well as Red Guardian. Wanda also tells Kamala that she doesn’t want the tech Kamala has, she wants Kamala.

The Asgardian zombies manage to kill Baron Zemo, Death Dealer and Jimmy Woo, but when they try to swarm Thor, Kamala jumps in and saves him. This causes Thor to get involved. He grants Kamala the title of Avenger and helps them all escape in Valkyrie’s ship. He holds off Wanda while the survivors go to space to try to contact the Nova Corps. But the Nova Corps is already there and lets them know their planet has been quarantined and they have 10 seconds to return to Earth. A countdown begins as the episode ends.

What’s Next?

Wanda now has her army to attack the creature at the center of the Earth. The sorcerers at Kamar Taj know she’s coming. And the survivors know the help that’s supposedly coming from the Nova Corps isn’t coming. The zombies are attacking and the survivors have to find a way to escape the Nova Corps and then get back home to stop the zombies. It’s going to be a hell of a ride.
