Reboot
Tommy and Vision remain on the run from Paladin, but their escape also gives them an opportunity to grow closer as father and son. Elsewhere, the AI avatars inside Vision’s mind scramble to repair the damage caused by the adamantium bullets. Unfortunately, their efforts may not be enough to keep Vision safe, as another threat begins closing in.

Father-Son Bonding
Vision and Tommy remain on the run from Paladin, leaving St. Mabyn’s Hospital behind as Vision struggles with his adamantium bullet wounds. Tommy wants answers about what's happening, but Vision urges him to stop asking questions and focus on staying alive. With their pursuers still on their trail, the two find a motel and take cash from an ATM to pay for a room. While there, Vision and Ultron notice Tommy's reaction to a picture of a swimming pool. Whatever happened to him, it's clearly still troubling him.
Once they're alone, Tommy explains the memory that the picture brought back. He recalls nearly drowning in a pool before something entered his body, and then the water started to boil. He also describes an incident at a vending machine in which he accidentally phased his hand through the glass and injured himself trying to pull it free. Vision realizes that Tommy is beginning to manifest unusual abilities that come from him. He explains what happened in WandaVision, finally accepting that he is Tommy Maximoff's father, even if he isn't the same person as Thomas Shepherd's father. This revelation also presents an opportunity: Tommy might be able to help Vision reboot himself.
New Threat
The episode actually opens with a mysterious new synthezoid attacking unsuspecting victims. Initially concealed beneath a hood, this figure is quickly established as a potentially significant threat to Vision. The character appears to be Butcherbird, identified in the comics with the android Jocasta. Her introduction delivers some of the series' most impressive action sequences so far.
Meanwhile, Paladin sends his drones after what he believes is Vision, only for them to lock onto Butcherbird instead. The encounter quickly turns against the bounty hunter when she probes his mind, exposing his upbringing and revealing that he was raised by Paladins rather than being one by birth. The psychological attack leaves him fighting for his life, giving Todd Stashwick an opportunity to deliver some excellent work. Paladin eventually regains control of his drones and uses them to distract Butcherbird long enough to escape. His troubles don't end there, though: his client calls to terminate the contract, a devastating blow for someone whose identity and livelihood are tied to being a Paladin. After this setback, I'm curious to see where he goes from here.
Reboot
Inside Vision's mind, F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., DUM-E, and U are struggling to keep his digital world intact. They're clearly out of their depth, and although J.A.R.V.I.S.'s sacrifice bought them some time, their survival remains uncertain. When F.R.I.D.A.Y. explains that Vision needs a reboot, E.D.I.T.H. offers the seemingly obvious solution: turn him off and then turn him back on. Unfortunately, there's a major complication. If they shut Vision down, nobody will be left to restart him, potentially destroying them all in the process.
Meanwhile, Vision turns to Tommy for help in the real world. Their plan involves entering the pool and using Tommy's superhuman speed to restart Vision after he shuts down. The sequence plays with some actual physics alongside some decidedly questionable science, but the emotional stakes are what matter most. Tommy refuses to let his father die. Overcoming his fear of the water, he uses his powers to help bring Vision back online. Their success comes at a cost, however: the reboot sends out a shockwave that alerts Butcherbird to a new way of reaching Vision.
Saying Goodbye
With Vision back up and running, the AI avatars hold a funeral to honor J.A.R.V.I.S. They initially expect Vision to deliver the eulogy, but DUM-E steps forward to pay tribute to the oldest AI in Vision's head. U follows with a rendition of "Danny Boy," giving the farewell an unexpectedly touching conclusion.
That emotional moment doesn't last long, though. As the ceremony winds down, the lighting changes, and the episode takes a sharp turn into horror. The unsettling atmosphere evokes classics like Poltergeist and The Ring, signaling that something sinister has joined the AIs inside Vision's mind. Butcherbird soon reveals herself by possessing DUM-E, U, and Vision, turning a heartfelt memorial into a terrifying encounter.
Final Thoughts
This episode walks a fascinating line between sentimentality and philosophical reflection. Both Vision and E.D.I.T.H. explain why they don't fear death, but their perspectives reveal an important difference. Vision offers a thoughtful, well-reasoned response, while Ultron points out that E.D.I.T.H. has never actually experienced death and therefore has little reason to fear it. That observation becomes especially interesting in light of the finale, when E.D.I.T.H. is confronted with something terrifying as Butcherbird possesses Vision.
Meanwhile, additional flashbacks reveal just how difficult Tommy's upbringing has been. His experiences bear some striking similarities to Wanda's, making me wonder whether the series is laying the groundwork for a deeper connection between the two. Could this storyline provide the perfect opportunity to bring Wanda back into the MCU? Or is Marvel planting the seeds for something bigger in Secret Wars? It's certainly possible.
There are still plenty of mysteries to unravel. I'm particularly curious about the identity of Paladin's client. Billy and Agatha are the possibility I'd love to see explored, but there's no guarantee either of them is involved. Then there's Butcherbird: Where did she come from, and what does she ultimately want with Vision? This series has given us plenty to speculate about, and I'm absolutely here for it.
