Warning: Spoilers Below
Possession
Xavier stops by the hospital to give Kyle the bad news that someone is possessing his body. He’s lost 20 years of his life as a spirit stuck in the hospital while someone has been living his life. It’s revealed the new Kyle is KC Jensen, a local dairy mogul who is on the town council. Maddie sees a ray of hope in this possession since the council will decide on the future of the school and what may happen to her friends on the ghostly plane.

Back at the school, Simon is struggling after his latest venture into the church scar. He seems forgetful although he’s able to inform them that Alfred Van Heidt murdered the kids in the church. While this is going on, Claire and Nicole have been investigating Van Heidt but all they’ve uncovered is that he was the first town statesman. There’s no mention of the Finnish church or what happened there.
Trauma
Maddie meets up with the ghosts to relay everything she’s learned so far and get an update on what they’ve learned. She notices how Simon is struggling since the latest trip into the church scar. Mr. Martin thinks they’ll learn more if they go back in the scar. However, Maddie doesn’t want Simon to go back in due to the way he’s acting. She knows he won’t stay out forever but encourages him to take a little more time.

Maddie also pulls Wally aside to discuss the hallucinations she’s been having. They discuss her dreams and her PTSD. They also touch on the relationship they had when both were spirits and how they can’t have the same relationship since Wally is stuck in the spirit world while Maddie is back in the world of the living. The ghosts, meanwhile, are trying to get in the mood to go back into the scar. Mr. Martin admits he probably won’t get a door to leave the spirit world but he thinks everyone else will due to how much he’s seen them grow. That encouragement gets them excited. Rhonda and Simon go into the scar with Mr. Martin while Charlie and Yuri go see how much time they have.
Escaping Other Worlds
Dave takes Kyle to Nurse Calvert to talk over what happened to Kyle’s body. She confirms someone managed to get in through her scar one night but she didn’t see who. This means she knows that Kyle’s body is the one this guy took while Kyle was under anesthesia. It’s unclear who this was though. Dave and Kyle are shocked to learn that Nurse Calvert had her key because they assumed those keys were the only way to get into their scars. However, Nurse Calvert informs them there is another way but doesn’t reveal what that way is.
Church Scar
Back in the scar, the trio looks around to see what they can find. Simon finds some sheet music near the piano and starts humming the song. This activates the water in the scar. Rhonda is pulled into the pull of water. Mr. Martin tries to keep her from passing through the veil, but it doesn’t work. The pair of them fall through the water into the library landing on a book cart in front of Quinn.

White Eyes appears and shows Simon more of what happened. Simon learns that White Eyes is living but trapped just like Simon. Mr. Martin wants to get back to Simon but Simon has his key. Wally arrives and takes Mr. Martin through his scar to get there, meaning Mr. Martin now knows Wally got his door. Wally pulls Simon away from White Eyes, but Simon wants more answers, so he grabs White Eyes’ face and goes deeper until passing out.
New Plan
Maddie decides she’s going with Xavier to talk to KC Jensen about getting him to vote against the school demolition plan. He doesn’t show up to meet them at school, so they head to his house. They are making their pitch when Maddie notices his ring. It looks like a family heirloom she saw in her own scar, and she quickly realizes that the person who has possessed Kyle’s body is none other than Alfred Van Heidt.

She reveals she knows who he is and then they hear a knock at the door. Superintendent Hunter-Price has shown up to try to close the demolition deal. Van Heidt/Jensen heads out the door and runs toward a corn maze. Maddie chases him and Xavier quickly realizes he’s got a gun. Claire and Nicole followed them from the school and they took off into the corn maze when they heard Xavier yelling. Maddie starts hallucinating again and she sees Van Heidt’s real image. He voices his frustration with her stopping him and then shoots himself in the leg before escaping through a door. Xavier, Claire and Nicole arrive to find Maddie cradling Jensen, who has been shot.
What’s Next?
The season’s Big Bad has been revealed and he’s got a lot to gain by destroying the school. The superintendent is just a greedy woman who is a means to an end. The question now is how has Van Heidt managed to escape the ghostly realm for more than a century since the flood that killed him along with the children in the church. How did he end up in the hospital to get Kyle’s body? It’s clear he got in through Nurse Carver’s scar but how did he get there? There’s a lot of questions to answer with just two more episodes to go.
