The Halls Have Eyes

Warning: Spoilers Below

Lifting the Veil

After Mr. Martin revealed what happened on that night in 2004, Simon figures out the veil between the living and the afterlife is lifted, at least temporarily, by going through this hole in the floor of Martin’s scar. He wants to go through it but there’s pushback on all sides. Some ghosts, Rhonda and Quinn, are openly against it, especially since Quinn died in that bus crash. Others, like Wally, are curious but are still pushing back at the moment because they don’t know how it will affect Simon since he’s living. Maddie is on hand for the discussion and she is also vehemently against it because she doesn’t want Simon to become a permanent ghost.

The next day, Maddie, Claire, Xavier and Nicole are discussing Nicole’s plan to infiltrate Livia’s clique. They are approached by the principal who calls them to his office. He informs the core four that they will not be going on the senior trip and will instead go to detention. Meanwhile, Xavier also informs Maddie that Kyle, the band ghost at the hospital, has found her dad and will set up a meeting for her.

Yuri and Charlie

Charlie and Yuri are discussing what Yuri meant when he said that one of the students might be his grandson. Yuri talks about getting a girl pregnant just before his senior year. She wanted to meet him one day and discuss what was going to happen. Before going to meet her, he went to the greenhouse to collect his thoughts. That’s when he had the anxiety attack that triggered his asthma and killed him. He really doesn’t know what she decided to do with the child.

Rhonda and Quinn are angry that Wally went through the opening. Quinn is also hurt given it’s how she ended up as a spirit. Simon wants to go through himself, since they now know going through it lifts the veil between the living and the afterlife. But Rhonda and Quinn take Mr. Martin’s key from him. They don’t want to risk someone else dying because another person becomes suddenly visible.

Maddie Talks to Her Dad

Maddie goes with Xavier to the hospital to talk to her dad who died when she was a child. Xavier serves as the middle-man for her and her dad much like Simon had to serve as the middle man between Maddie and the living world in the first two seasons and Maddie now serves as the middle man between Simon and the living world. Maddie feels some relief but is also overwhelmed about finally having a conversation with her father after all these years.

Maddie asks her dad to ask around about Simon’s situation since he’s alive and in his body yet stuck in the afterlife rather than a ghost or having a ghost possess your body. As they are leaving, Maddie’s mother arrives, angry she didn’t just come home. She takes her home and it’s clear they are about to have it out.

Party at Livia’s House

While this has been going on, Livia has been more accepting of Nicole. Claire has been playing up how Nicole is fed up with her and Maddie so Livia would bring her in. It works and Livia invites Nicole to a party she’s having the night before the senior trip. Nicole goes and tries to get closer to Livia. Unfortunately she violates a cardinal rule that Claire gave her. She tries to play off a crush but the name she suggests, Jason, leads to Livia freezing her out.

Nicole wanders into Livia’s mother’s office and quickly realizes that Livia is the Superintendent’s daughter. She finds evidence the Superintendent just wants to bulldoze the school so new real estate can be brought in. She’s also got cameras all over the school to follow the students. Nicole takes photos of the evidence and slips out, but she’s a little drunk because all the drinks at the party have alcohol in them. She goes to Maddy’s house where she starts vomiting because she’s drunk.

Maddie vs. Mom

After Maddie takes care of Nicole, her mother asks her if that’s what she was doing when she disappeared. Maddie calls out her mother’s own issues with alcohol and starts looking for the bottles she knows her mother is hiding. She finds them and just has it out. Sandra may be a worried mother, but her alcoholism since her husband’s death has been negatively affecting her relationship with her daughter for years.

Later, Nicole’s brother arrives to pick her up and take her home. Sandra meets Maddie at the door with a suitcase. Earlier, Sandra was going to move Maddie out, thinking the school was not a good place for her since she was being bullied. However, this time, Sandra says the suitcase is just for her and she’s checking into rehab as she awaits her ride.

Simon in the Scar

Back at the school, Rhonda and Quinn have taken the watch that gets them into Mr. Martin’s scar from Wally and Simon. They discuss how they want to live their afterlives and Rhonda suggests Quinn finally take a yearbook picture. The pair go through a bunch of clothes to help Quinn feel like themselves, but in the end, Quinn has them take the picture in the clothes they died in because that’s who they are.

They give the watch to Simon and tell them they aren’t going to keep him stuck in the afterlife. Simon and Wally go to the hole to see if Simon can go through without being dragged into the water. He’s still alive, so he could drown if he’s in the water. Wally has a rope tied to him but it snaps. Simon is seeing a mysterious figure in the scar.

What’s Next?

There’s clearly something stuck under the school that is truly more evil than anything else they’ve ever experienced. Mr. Martin is out of his scar and is now back to living in the school. While it’s understandable many of the rest of the ghosts don’t forgive him, they may need his help with the dangers they face. Plus, they have to find a way to get Simon out without killing him which is a change from what happened with Maddie. It’s got a lot of momentum moving forward.
