Smooching and Smushing

Sam and Jay have the ghost trap fixed, so Sas can try to cross the barrier to go see Shiki. Trevor and Hetty try to trick Flower with money. And Thorfinn has a redeeming moment after showing weakness.

Sas Seeks Love

Sam and Jay call in the man who provided the ghost trap to try to fix it. He shows up with a type of gun he says catches ghosts. Thorfinn jumps behind Alberta even though the man never uses it as he really can’t detect the ghosts. Still, he gets to work fixing the ghost trap and gives it some upgrades. Instead of malfunctioning when there are three ghosts, he’s expanded its capacity to 100 ghosts.

While this is going on Sas is going over all his potential romantic entanglements. He loved Shiki in life and wants to try to see her after she hinted his actions in life were worthy of romantic pursuit. Still, he’s developing feelings for Joan given her wandering presence has allowed him to understand more of the ghostly world beyond Woodstone’s grounds. Joan, for her part, has taken a liking to Sas as well and is torn because she wants to tell him how she feels but doesn’t want to keep him from Siki. Unfortunately, Sas overhears her confessing her feelings for him to Pete and confuses it for her being interested in Pete. He heads to the ghost trap to try to woo Shiki.

H-Money vs. Flower

While this is going on, the power team of Hetty and Trevor, dubbed H-Money try to figure out what they want to do with some money Trevor has acquired. Flower believes the pair is conspiring against the rest of the ghosts for their own benefit, so H-Money targets her with the money. Flower is a hippie who chose the communal lifestyle over capitalism in life. They tell Flower they will give her the money to put to any cause she wants. They reason that she won’t donate to charity because Flower was poor in life and instead will spend money on something she wants.

Later, they come around to ask Flower what she did with the money and she tells them she didn’t donate to charity. They think this means they won until she reveals that she was using ebay to raise the price on a pair of skates used in the film The Cutting Edge. Trevor loved that film in life and was bidding on the skates. She reveals she knew this and was making him spend more of the money he acquired and depriving him of something he wants. Flower may have lived the last years of her life as a hippie, but she revealed many times that she was once a lawyer and can be as ruthless as the two members of H-Money. She’s the perfect foil for the two elitists who often don’t understand empathy (even though both have proven to show it from time to time.)

Thorfinn’s Redemption

While Sas is awaiting transport, the ghost learn about a potential third option with the ghost trap. They had assumed that either he would make it through the barrier or would be expelled from the trap. However, they finally consider that since ghosts can’t move through the trap like they can other solid objects that Sas might be squished against the walls of the ghost trap.

Jay is leaving with Sas, and the ghosts jump into action to try to ensure their friend doesn’t get squished. Thorfinn jumps in the trap with Sas and uses his electricity ghost power to short circuit the trap kicking the pair of ghosts out of the trap and into the car. When Jay drives over the property line both are thrown back into the grounds. Sas has a chance to pursue Joan since he now knows she wasn’t expressing feelings for Pete but her feelings for Sas to Pete. Thorfinn now looks like a hero after looking like a coward when jumping behind Alberta at the beginning of the episode.

Rating

This episode felt more like Ghosts at its best. Simple misunderstandings leading to a situation that needs to be resolved. Sas showing vulnerability. Thorfinn showing weakness, then strength. Flower showing intelligence. H-Money showing they can be cruel but aren’t immune to cruelty. Plus, Joan is easily the best of the new ghosts added since the show started. There’s actual room for growth with her character and can also be a positive impact on Sas.
