His Girl Shiki
Pete finds another ghost who can roam and brings her to the mansion to meet with Sass. But there’s something from Sass that keeps him from being able to properly connect. Meanwhile, Thorfinn tries to get back at Alberta for a 50-year-old wrong.

Joan
As the ghosts are once again giving Sass a hard time about still being a virgin 500 years into his afterlife when Pete mentions he’s met some wandering ghosts in his travels and will bring one to the mansion to meet Sass. When Pete brings her, there’s also an older woman waiting in the lobby who Sass mistakes for the woman until Joan introduces herself. She was a woman breaking ground in the film industry during the Golden Age of Hollywood when she died.

She tries to connect with Sass but the pair keep struggling. Eventually they determine that Sass has a habit of pursuing unattainable women like his former girlfriend, the car ghost. They also reference his undying love for a fellow Native American woman, Shiki, who isn’t on the grounds, but Sass points out he loved her in life. Pete goes to find out if Shiki is interested in Sass to give him closure and it appears she’s not until she learns about the courting ritual he pursued with her not long before he died. She reconsiders everything and starts showing interest in him.
Thorfinn and Alberta
While this has been going on, Thorfinn wants revenge for Alberta not attending his 1,000th birthday party which was 50 years prior to present day. He convinces her to throw a party, so he can not attend. But she never notices that he wasn’t there. He tries to play up that it was revenge against her, and he explains how she hurt his feelings by not attending. But she explains that she was a young ghost at the time (only 50 years old herself) and was fearful that she would still be there 1,000 years later. They agree to a friend’s meet up later.

During the party, Jay accidentally reveals that Shiki is showing interest in Sass. This comes after the other ghosts tried to spare Sass’s feelings since he can’t leave the grounds and neither can Shiki. Sass and Joan bond as friends and come up with an idea for Sass to potentially leave the property using a ghost trap that once caught Thorfinn and Flower. Meanwhile, Alberta once again stands up Thorfinn because no one gets revenge on her.
Rating
The episode on its own is rather disappointing but it does set up a potential storyline that may improve its standing on a rewatch. The story is building to Sass potentially being able to leave the grounds. That has some intrigue once we get there. Meanwhile, the Joan character is interesting and hopefully she’s allowed to return more often. She doesn’t need to be a series regular, but I’d like to see her return as a recurring character. She’s already more fun than Carol.
