Since launching in 2008, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has provided teasers to future properties. While many have become iconic like “the Avengers Initiative” or “Thor’s hammer” in New Mexico, others have been left as dangling threads. While it’s unclear when, or if, Marvel will get back to these threads, this list will look at the credit scenes that remain unresolved.

Too Many Sorcerers
At the end of Dr. Strange, Baron Karl Mordo steals the magic of Jonathan Pangborn before proclaiming there are “too many sorcerers.” Since then, viewers have not seen this version of Mordo. A VERSION OF Baron Mordo appeared in Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but that one was from a different universe. Right now, it’s unclear if we’ll see it again.
The Dr. Strange movies are solid but not my cup of tea. I don’t need this one paid off. However, if Marvel chooses to resolve this thread, Mordo could make a good villain for a third film. Of course, it’s unclear if he still believes there are too many sorcerers after the Scarlet Witch’s siege on Kamar-Taj.

Spider-man’s Identity
Vulture knew Spider-Man’s identity, and the Scorpion suspected he knew when they met in prison at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming. Scorpion asked Vulture who the wall-crawler was and Vulture lied about not knowing Peter Parker was Spider-Man. This was a big moment at the time, but future events have made this one less compelling.
Vulture was sucked into the Sony Universe appearing in mid- and post-credits scenes in Morbius (the less said about that film, the better). Meanwhile, Spider-Man’s identity was revealed by Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Then, Dr. Strange conducted a spell to make the world forget that Peter Parker was Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home. While Scorpion is slated to return in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it’s unclear if the identity aspect will play a role

The Power Broker
During The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the pair of heroes were tracking a mysterious crime boss known as the Power Broker. In the series end credits scene, Sharon Carter, a former ally of Steve Rogers who had been helping them the entire time, was revealed as the Power Broker just as she was pardoned for her crimes against the US government during the events of Captain America: Civil War. Since then, her only appearance has been in a multiversal capacity in What If…?
Marvel should not only resolve this dangling thread, but it should’ve already happened. Sam Wilson took over as Captain America with his first solo outing in Captain America: Brave New World. His first outing was overshadowed by the introduction of Red Hulk. Sharon Carter and Sam Wilson already worked together on screen three times. Fans should’ve gotten to see her as a villain in his first film as Cap. A connection between her and the Serpent Society would’ve been more compelling for a non-powered Captain America, in my opinion.

Bruce and Carol Examine the Ten Rings
The best MCU film of phase 4, for me, was Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. It featured two scenes teasing ahead that seem to have been set aside. One involves Carol Danvers and Bruce Banner examining the Ten Rings after Shang-Chi was able to obtain them. They determined the rings were sending a signal to space. But since then, we’ve gotten almost nothing.
Shang-Chi has appeared in What If…?, and Simu Liu is confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, but fans are still waiting for a second Shang-Chi movie. It was rumored the sequel would have greatly affected Avengers 5 when it was called Kang Dynasty, but the pivot away from Kang and toward Dr. Doom seems to have sidelined Shang-Chi. Hopefully, we get that sequel after Avengers: Secret Wars.

Xu Xialing’s Ascent
Xu Xialing was introduced as Shang-Chi’s sister. The pair stopped their father but went on very different paths. Xu chose to ascend to the top of the powerful, secret organization that her father once led. Since then, her only other appearance has been What If…?
The character has been confirmed for a Shang-Chi sequel, so we should see her again if that film ever gets off the ground. This is one of the hanging threads where I feel ambivalence. She makes sense for Shang-Chi films, but I don’t really need to see her anywhere else.

Eros and Pip Arrive
Eternals may be the best Justice League movie we will ever get (we’ll see if James Gunn can land the ship that Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon crashed), but it was still a mediocre at best film. While some of the Eternals were traveling through space, Eros, the brother of Thanos, and Pip arrive on the ship to offer help. When will they appear again?
Hopefully, never. Very little of the Eternals film was appealing to continue. The only questions I’ve ever had were about Tiamut. Using the Celestial’s corpse to serve as the MCU’s source of adamantium makes him the only useful part of the film. Stay in space Eros and Pip. Please!

Black Knight
At the end of Eternals, Dane Whitman, who had been a love interest for Cersei in the film, opens a case with a sword. Then, an unknown voice asks him if he’s ready. That voice was later confirmed to be Mahershala Ali as Blade. Marvel then confirmed a Blade movie was in the works. It’s been years and almost every update about Blade has been more disheartening than the last, and Dane Whitman, who serves as the Black Knight in the comics, has never re-appeared.
Recently, Kevin Feige confirmed Blade was still in the works, so hopefully he appears. As for the Black Knight, I hope he fits in there. Both served as part of the Midnight Sons, and it would be great to get more of the darker group in the MCU. Especially since we’ve already seen Werewolf By Night, Man-Thing and Moon Knight. Bring them all in, please.

Venom Symbiote in 616
At the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock/Venom appears in a post-credit scene where he’s sucked back to his own dimension but part of the Venom symbiote is left behind. When will MCU fans see more of Venom? And should they?
For my money, yes. The Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters, or SPUMC, (that may be the worst acronym of all time), is done with Venom being the only successful character. Venom deserves to be in the MCU against Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. While this will unlikely happen in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, please Marvel give us a fifth Spider-Man film with Venom as the only villain. Make up for Spider-Man 3. Make up for Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Plus, give Tom Hardy a true MCU outing as the character.

Jake Lockley
When the MCU started introducing series on Disney Plus, the first four focused on familiar characters. Moon Knight was the first new character introduced in his own series. Oscar Isaac steals the show as Marc Spector and Steven Grant, the same man with split personalities who serve as Moon Knight and Mr. Knight in this series. While originally promoted as a mini-series, it ended with the revelation there was a third personality named Jake Lockley.
Since then, we haven’t seen anything from this character. Oscar Isaac is an in-demand actor, but he has hinted at a potential season two or even a movie appearance. Please put him in something. Fans deserve to see more of the cab driver personality who is more vicious than either Marc or Steven. Plus, Moon Knight is part of Midnight Sons, and as mentioned above, I want more of the darker characters. GIVE US MIDNIGHT SONS!

Clea
At the end of Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Clea appeared claiming Strange created incursions and must now fix them. The two then left together. Neither has been seen in the main MCU since.
Neither was announced as part of the cast for Avengers: Doomsday, but there are reports that incursions will play a big role in Avengers: Secret Wars. Hopefully, we will see both Strange and Clea there if not sooner.

Hercules
The gods are angry at Thor following his actions in Thor: Love and Thunder. Zeus calls on his son, Hercules, to go kill Thor. He hasn’t been since, but the film teased that Thor would return in a fifth solo outing.
Hopefully, we get that fifth film, because it would be nice to see what happens with Hercules and Thor. Hercules makes no sense anywhere else in the established MCU, so this is the only option I see for resolving this scene.

Wong Frees Blonsky
Emil Blonsky found a way back to the MCU years after his initial appearance in The Incredible Hulk as he returned in both Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. At the end of the She-Hulk series, Blonsky, who was thought to have been reformed, was back in prison. Wong, who had been using a portal to free him for a weird monster fight club in Shang-Chi, returns and frees him. Since then, we have not seen Blonsky or Wong again.
Wong is likely to return in Avengers films or a Dr. Strange 3, but what about Blonsky? It would be great to see him again. It would be nice to see him interact with both Bruce Banner’s Hulk and Thunderbolt Ross’ Red Hulk? Given the rights issues, I’m not sure how to make that work without overshadowing another character’s outing, but it would be great if Disney and Universal could work out a deal similar to Disney and Sony.

T’Challa’s Son
The mid-credits scene of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever revealed that T’Challa and NAKIA had welcomed a son named after his father. Very little was revealed beyond the child’s existence as he was introduced to his Aunt Shuri.
Denzel Washington has said he’s going to film Black Panther 3 with Ryan Coogler. That could certainly lead to the reappearance of T’Challa 2. Plus, Marvel has been hinting at either a Young Avengers or Champions project which would be great for the younger T’Challa to return, as well.

Council of Kangs
At one point, Kang was meant to be the big villain of the multiverse saga. But personal struggles for the actor and lukewarm reception to the character led Marvel to pivot. However, they had already introduced the Council of Kangs in a scene in Antman and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Marvel most likely wrapped up the Kang storyline in Loki season two. Victor Timely may only be one variant of Kang, but it’s unlikely we’ll see more. They fired Jonathan Majors and moved from Kang to Dr. Doom. I really don’t need more Kang in my MCU.

New Guardians
The mid-credits scene of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 shows a new group of Guardians saving the galaxy. Rocket is leading this team along with Groot, Kraglin, Adam Warlock, Cosmo and Phyla. But will they return?
Maybe in Avengers: Secret Wars. Director James Gunn left Marvel for DC after finishing GOTG Vol 3. His brother, Sean, who played Kraglin also jumped over to play Maxwell Lord and voice several characters in Creature Commandos. With the Gunn brothers out of the mix, another Guardians movie is almost certainly out, but there are Avengers films that could use some extra bodies.

Star Lord
The end credits scene of GOTG Vol. 3 shows Peter Quill on Earth, sharing a meal with his grandfather and gossiping about his neighbor. It could’ve been a solid send off to the Star Lord character. But the film said Star Lord would return. So the question is when?
Since he’s no longer with the Guardians, an Avengers movie is the most likely possibility. Star Lord really isn’t strong enough to carry a solo film. He hasn’t been announced for Doomsday and I don’t know if he’ll be in Secret Wars. Honestly, this doesn’t need to be resolved because it should’ve been a character exit.

Beast
At the end of The Marvels, Monica Rambeau wakes up and is confronted by Dr. Hank McCoy/Beast who has been giving her medical attention. Monica realizes she’s in a different universe, one where her mother, Maria Rambeau, is still alive. This is most likely the Fox universe since Kelsey Grammer returned as Beast.
This has the potential to be resolved in Avengers: Doomsday. Grammer is confirmed for that Avengers film, however Teyonah Parris has not been confirmed, so it could still be hanging when that film is over. Of course, Secret Wars is only a year later, so let’s see what we learn.

Those are many of the hanging threads that have been left by MCU films and shows. The one I most want resolved is Jake Lockley. I want more Moon Knight. In contrast, the Star Lord scene doesn’t need resolution.
Which hanging threads do you most want resolved?
