LADIES LOVE BRUNCH
Georgie works to make Mother’s Day special for both Mandy and Mary. Meanwhile, Mandy decides to spend time with Audrey to help Conor when he finally introduces his girlfriend to his mother.

Mother’s Day Planning
As Georgie and Mandy prepare for Mother’s Day, Georgie promises Mandy she can sleep in and he’ll take care of her on her day. Georgie calls his mother and she says she’s excited to see her son and her granddaughter on Mother’s Day. Georgie wasn’t planning on this, but he promises to attend church with his mother and spend some time with her. Mandy is a little disappointed by this, but Georgie promises she doesn’t have to go and can still have her own day.

Meanwhile, Audrey is disappointed that she won’t have her daughter or granddaughter around on Mother’s Day. Connor foolishly says he’ll be around and will do whatever his mother wants to do. Audrey asks to meet his girlfriend, Chloe. Connor tries to get out of it but realizes he has to ask Chloe to meet his mother. Mandy tells Georgie they need to be there for Connor and Chloe. Georgie suggests brunch to Mandy saying “ladies love brunch.” Mandy wants to refute him but admits he’s right. Georgie calls his mother and tells her that he and Cici will be at church with her, but he invites her over to the McAllisters for brunch. Mary, like Mandy, admits to loving brunch. Audrey is excited since she went from not having much to do on Mother’s Day to having both her kids, her granddaughter and her son’s girlfriend all visiting.
Mother’s Day Brunch
Everyone comes over for Mother’s Day brunch and Mandy tries to run interference for Connor. She sits Audrey at one head of the table and Mary at the other. She has Chloe sit next to Mary. Mary and Chloe start a conversation and Audrey gets frustrated that she can’t hear from so far away. Cici starts crying, and Jim, recognizing this is an unpleasant scenario for the men, volunteers to go change Cici. He then hides in the nursery with her to avoid what’s going on at the table.

Audrey slides into Jim’s seat putting her next to Conor. She keeps trying to interrupt Mary’s conversation with Chloe because it’s her son’s girlfriend and she wants to know more. Connor tries to leave but Chole won’t let him as she doesn’t want to be left alone in this scenario. Audrey acts like a spoiled brat, basically undoing all her growth as a character over the season in one scene, and claims people are trying to stop her from talking to Chloe. Mary calls out Audrey’s behavior which leads to Audrey bringing up why Missy hasn’t joined her mother for Mother’s Day.
Rating
This episode brings a lot of reality for many families when it comes to interactions between in-laws. While I’ve been fortunate enough to have accepting families on both sides, there are too many horror stories about one grandmother being insecure about the other grandmother’s role. And the fact this trope is so common among family sitcoms means it’s far more common than it should be. The episode ended with Mandy commenting the family scared off Chloe which is humorous but all too real for many at home watching this.
I hope that comment was a joke and not how they plan to write off Chloe. While Connor was very one dimensional at the beginning of the season, he grew into his own once they started allowing more interactions between him and Georgie, as well as highlighting his crush and then relationship with Chloe. Honestly, I’d rather see more of Connor and Chloe and less of Audrey and Mary. Still, next week is the two part season finale, so let’s see how they wrap up the first season before heading into the already confirmed season two.
