Dirty Hands and a Barbed-Wire Fence

Warning: Spoilers below

Drowning in Bills

The stress of owning the shop is getting to Georgie. He dreams he’s drowning in bills and tries to think of ways to bring in new customers. He buys one of those air powered balloon men, but they are still struggling. Georgie tells Ruben they may not have to take salary for a month, or six. Ruben reminds him that’s not possible, because he doesn’t live with his in-laws for free. He needs money to pay his bills.

While this is happening, Pastor Jeff comes by and tells Georgie he will be moving his business to Fagenbacher, because Fagenbacher has promised to service the church buses for free, something Georgie can’t do. He tries to call Fagenbacher and get him to back off, but Fagenbacher laughs him off and mentions Georgie’s mother which gets a rise out of him. Georgie has Ruben come over for dinner to hatch out a plan to get back at Fabenbacher.

Tow Truck Bleach

While eating dinner with the McAllisters, Audrey is happy to have Ruben stop by and Georgie and Ruben lie about how successful the store is going. Mandy knows something is off and calls out Georgie’s lying, saying he sounds “more country” when he lies. Later, when they are lying in bed, Georgie begins to sneak out. Mandy asks him where he’s going and he says he’s going on a tow. She didn’t hear his pager and feels something is definitely off.

Georgie and Ruben sneak into Fagenbacher’s yard and start pouring bleach in the gas tanks. Ruben tells him he had an ex-girlfriend do this to him and he knows it will work. Once it’s done, a dog in the yard hears them and quickly approaches them. Georgie climbs the fence easily, but Ruben gets stuck. He manages to escape and the pair return to their homes. Georgie takes a shower and Mandy notices when he gets into bed raising more concerns.

Guilty Conscience

The next day, Georgie is out on a tow when he gets a call for another one. He asks if they called Fagenbacher and the voice on the other end of the radio says Fagenbacher is out of commission. Georgie seems happy at first but quickly starts feeling guilty. He enjoys the work, but doesn’t seem to enjoy the shady side of business. Mandy keeps hounding him about what’s going on as he is showering more than usual and won’t talk about what’s going on.

Georgie is having a little “me time” when Jim comes in to talk to him. Georgie explains that he had to get his hands dirty to protect the business. Jim understands and admits that he had to do something dirty when he was younger too. He tells Georgie that Audrey knows nothing about it, and Georgie tells him that Mandy doesn’t know what it is either, just that he did something. Jim tells Georgie that he’s a good man. When Georgie tells him he doesn’t feel like a good man, Jim tells him that’s because he is one. The next day, Georgie gives Ruben his paycheck but Fagenbacher shows up telling them he knows they sabotaged his tow trucks.

What’s Next?

This is the first episode that hints the issues in Georgie and Mandy’s marriage may be something they can’t overcome. Georgie’s secretiveness has Mandy telling him it’s what cheaters do. He’s not cheating, he’s trying to provide for his family. But many marriages have ended because one or both of the spouses work too much to provide for the family and end up missing out on what makes the family whole. Given the name of this show, this may be the catalyst that sends them from wedded to bliss to second marriages.
