Warning: Spoilers Below

Matt and Eve

Matt and the custom shop guys are working on the car of Los Angeles Dodgers star player, Mookie Betts when Eve comes over to the shop to talk to Matt about going on a date. They pantomime a big argument to pretend like they aren’t planning something, but Stitch sees right through it. When they come out of the office, Eve decides to kiss Matt in front of everyone because she doesn’t care who knows these two polar opposites are going on a date. Of course, this causes trouble because the pair have different ideas of what constitutes a date.

Matt goes to Eve’s door to pick her up, but she’s already at the location where they are having their date. While sharing a drink at the driving range, the waiter brings Eve the wrong drink. She’s content to let it go, but Matt pushes back, arguing a customer should get the drink they ordered. Eventually it leads to Eve getting hurt and having to go to the hospital. They continue their spat there, and Matt leaves, but he returns as he can’t leave her alone since she gets hurt. The pair still have a lot to work through, but it’s clear they care about each other and want to work toward a better date experience.

Riley and Jen

In the episode’s B-plot, Georgia is having a friend over and Riley is meeting with the girls’ mother, Jen. Riley and Jen bond well, thinking that their daughters are close friends. But when Riley tells Georgia she is spending time with Jen again later that night, Georgia gets mad, saying she now hates the girl and her mother must hate the girl’s mother. Riley texts Jen to cancel their “date,” but Jen shows up and the two mothers decide to go out and have fun.

The pair are getting along well, as it’s clear both have needed a night out, but the conversation about their daughters leads to a fight. Riley thinks Jen’s daughter is the cause of the rift with Georgia, while Jen thinks Georgia caused the rift. They fight to defend their daughters and then head their separate ways. Riley finds Georgia waiting for her, having tracked her and knowing she was with Jen. Riley explains (like a daughter explaining to a parent instead of the other way around) to Georgia about the night out, the fight and how she won’t see Jen again. At this point, Georgia and Jen’s daughter have made up and now Georgia mad that Riley and Jen won’t be friends now.

Gabe and Stitch

In the C-plot, Gabe and Stitch are having their own relationship issues for their friendship. Stitch is jealous about how much time Gabe is spending with his girlfriend. Carter brings his car down to the shop for the pair to work on it, but the tension cuts through everyone like a knife. Stitch is openly hostile toward Gabe and his girlfriend. Carter uses fantasy characters to try to mediate the discussion and help them repair the relationship. Gabe is on board, but Stitch keeps mocking Carter.

Eventually, Stitch opens up about how much he just misses his friend and wants Gabe to make time for him. Stitch is happy that Gabe has found a woman that makes him happy, but he’s feeling neglected. The pair were best friends and he still wants that feeling. Once they make up, Gabe notices how weird Carter sounds using the fantasy characters and quickly comes around to Stitch’s mockery.

What’s Next?

Honestly, this episode felt so unnecessary. All three are storylines that could serve as serviceable plots for an episode, but put together they feel so bland. A lot of this show has already felt like a copy of a copy of a copy given how much Matt Parker seems to be just like Tim Taylor and Mike Baxter. The date with Eve felt rushed after the first season dealt with his grief of losing his wife very well. They had more story to tell with Matt clearly starting to develop romantic feelings again but still grieving his wife. They can’t hang on it too long, but it felt rushed to get to the kiss in season one or the date in the second episode of season two. The other two plots are fine backup plots, but neither can carry an episode. Maybe they should’ve been spread into other episodes. All in all, this is rather bland.
