Guilt Boots
Jim’s old rival wants to buy the shop that puts him at a crossroads with Georgie, Mandy and Audrey. Meanwhile, Mandy has a chance at her dream job, but her past comes back to haunt her, leading to guilt and a big fight with Georgie.

Big Decision
Fred Fagenbacher stops by the shop to make Jim an offer. The tire magnate is looking to expand and wants to buy Jim’s shop. Jim looks troubled as he doesn’t want to sell the store to Fagenbaher, but he also can’t just look the other way at the money being offered. This upsets Georgie as Jim had hinted he would be leaving the shop to Georgie when he retired.

When they return home, Jim has a lot on his mind and tells Audrey he needs to talk to her. Georgie is clearly very upset. Jim and Audrey discuss the offer and what it means for them and for Georgie and Mandy. Meanwhile, Georgie vents his frustration to Mandy, because he thought he had found where he was going to be working until he was ready to retire. There’s a lot on everybody’s mind.
Mandy’s Promotion
Meanwhile, Mandy gets some good news. She’s doing such a great job as the fill-in morning meteorologist, the station wants to promote her to weekend meteorologist. (I work in tv news and that’s barely a promotion but they’re betting the average viewer doesn’t know that.) But there’s a problem, her boss will be her ex-boyfriend, Scott, who she worked with and dated during her time working in San Antonio.

Mandy is excited for the opportunity but apprehensive about telling Georgie about Scott. Given she was only a fill-in, she barely worked with Scott, so she didn’t feel the need to tell Georgie too much about her past with him. However, now that she will be working with him regularly, she knows she needs to tell Georgie, so she buys him some boots to soften the blow.
Rating
At the end of the penultimate episode, Mandy, who has now bought Georgie a belt buckle to help soften him up, is ready to tell Georgie about Scott. Unfortunately, Jim and Audrey walk in and announce that Jim has decided to take Fagenbacher up on his offer and sell the shop. Georgie is still upset about the news and Mandy returns to confession to talk to a priest since she’s been unable to tell Georgie.
It’s a great setup for a season finale that perfectly illustrates why Georgie and Mandy’s marriage is doomed to fail.

Big Decisions
Georgie comes up with a new idea to salvage the future he envisioned for himself and a new alliance forms out of nowhere.
Mandy Tells Georgie
Mandy finally decides she has to tell Georgie about Scott no matter the fallout. This leads to a big blow-up and he starts collecting his things to leave. He’s acting a bit childish, but he’s only 20-years-old. He’s also understandably upset that she didn’t tell him this when she was first starting to fill-in as a meteorologist and tried to soften him up with gifts. Neither handled this situation well and it’s clearly setting up why the marriage will eventually fail.

Georgie goes to stay with his mother for a bit and get the redirection he needs. His entire world is crashing down and he doesn’t know how to handle it. But he comes to a decision that will impact both him and his entire family. Georgie asks Jim to let him know what Fagenbacher’s offer is and give him time to match it. As soon as he sees the price, both Georgie and Ruben cringe with how much he will need to raise.
Georgie Seeks a Loan
Georgie is determined to continue working at the shop, so he tells Mandy since she made a decision about her future without involving him, he’s going to make a decision about his future without involving her. This is a bad idea, since they aren’t in a good spot to take on more debt, but he’s determined. Georgie goes into several banks and tries to get a loan, getting rejected every time. He has no collateral, so banks can’t afford the risk of giving him a loan.

He talks it over with his mother and seems genuinely dejected that he can’t make his dreams come true. Mary tells him that he should ask her. She owns her house outright and she can use it for collateral. She says she believes in Georgie and even though when he was younger her focus was more on Sheldon and Missy, it’s his turn to get some help from his mother. She tells him he better succeed because if he loses her house, she and Missy are moving in with him and Mandy.
Tire Future
With collateral provided by Mary, Georgie can now afford a loan. Unfortunately for him, it’s only about half of Fagenbacher’s offer. Jim is trying to give Georgie as much time as possible, but he can’t take the lesser offer. That’s when a surprise alliance forms when Ruben, the mechanic who has disliked Georgie since he started at the shop, comes in and offers up the rest of the money to help Georgie buy the shop. Ruben mentions that he also wanted to buy the shop but didn’t have the money, but his grandmother supported him and he has enough to cover half.

Jim takes several drinks before agreeing to sell to Georgie and Ruben. He then gets drunk and Georgie drags him home so he can tell Audrey he’s retired. Georgie tells Mandy they won’t be able to move out for a while, but he’s got a shop and she has a meteorologist job. They have a path to the future, but they are pushing themselves there in the worst possible ways.
Rating
Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage has already been renewed for a second season, but its premise tells you it has to move toward a less than stellar ending. Still, it hit its stride late and became a genuinely funny show by the end. It’s not as good as The Big Bang Theory or Young Sheldon, but it found its groove and is worth renewing.
