Goddess of the Music Store
Mandy’s brother Connor asks for Georgie’s advice when it comes to asking a girl out on a date. Meanwhile, the rest of the family goes through an emotional roller coaster with Jim and Mandy being supportive and Audrey feeling like she’s losing her son.
Connor’s Crush
Connor tells Georgie he has a crush on a girl at the music store but struggles to ask her out. He asks Georgie to come with him to help talk him up to her. Mandy tries to listen in on their private conversations and then guilts Georgie into telling her since they are married and shouldn’t keep secrets. Mandy is shocked to learn Connor is interested in a girl but excited about the potential.

Georgie goes with Connor to meet the girl and talk him up, but Connor immediately gives the girl a tape with a song he wrote for her. He explains he’s playing every instrument in the song and asks her to write lyrics. It’s clear that Connor doesn’t need Georgie, he just needs confidence. Still it works out that she’s interested in writing lyrics for him and they make a date.
Jim and Audrey’s Reaction
The girl comes over and they bond over music. She sings the lyrics she wrote for the song but requests Connor not look at her while she’s singing. He loves the lyrics but they start having small squabbles over musical taste. He loves Steely Dan because it’s a perfect blend of music and synchronization. She thinks Steely Dan is boring and prefers music with flaws. He mentions he has flaws and she tells him she knows before they kiss.

The trio confront Connor about what happened at the music store with all three showing differing levels of support. Jim is encouraging and wants almost anyone to take his son. Mandy wants her brother to be happy. Audrey also wants Connor to be happy but keeps discouraging him from pursuing anything. It’s a perfect example of how a mother can’t let her baby go even when he’s no longer a baby.
Connor’s Date

Later that night, Mandy is taking the garbage to the cans in the garage when the girl is leaving. She tries to hide to not interfere but Connor tells her he can see her when he returns to his room. Mandy goes to talk to them and he mentions he’s had dates previously. He also says he doesn’t want to rush into parenthood because he sees how it affects her life. She says CiCi is a blessing but agrees he should wait.
RATING
This is only the second time this entire season where Connor has felt like a fleshed out character. He’s been too one dimensional for the majority of this first season. Still, when they put in the effort, he’s one of the most interesting characters of the show. He doesn’t need to be the sole focus often, but there needs to be more build of his relationship with both Georgie and Mandy. More Connor please.
